One of my favorite masterworks-in-a-neighborhood-chruch was a Bernini sculpture, The Ecstasy of St Theresa, in Santa Maria della Vittoria. In it St Theresa is visited by an attractive male angel who repeatedly thrusts the glowing rod of God's love into her body while she writhes in ecstacy.
